How we pick products and check prices
Skinbar is written by the Skinbar editorial team. We're not dermatologists, and we don't present ourselves as one. Our guides summarise guidance from dermatology bodies, CANSA and peer-reviewed studies, and every guide lists its sources at the end.
How we choose what to recommend
We start from the ingredient or routine step the evidence supports, such as broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, or niacinamide for oil. Then we look for products South Africans can actually buy and have delivered. We prefer fragrance-free and non-comedogenic options for sensitive and acne-prone skin, and we flag who should skip a product.
We haven't tested every product on our own skin, and we say so. We don't publish star ratings we can't back up.
Where prices come from
- YesStyle prices are read from the live product page on the date shown on each card.
- Stylevana, StyleKorean, Jolse and some YesStyle prices come from the shops' Awin product feeds. The feed date is shown on the card. Feed prices can be out of date, so the shop's page is always the final price.
- Takealot "also at" prices were read from Takealot's product data on the date shown.
- Shops list prices in US dollars. We convert to rand at the day's mid-market rate (USD/ZAR 16.51 on 12 October 2026, from open.er-api.com). Shipping, VAT and import duties are extra.
What we leave out
If we can't confirm a product exists at a shop, with a working link and a real product photo, it doesn't go on the site. Products right now: Jolse (274), StyleKorean (183), Stylevana (181), YesStyle (268).
Corrections
If a price, link or claim is wrong, tell us through the contact page and we'll fix it and update the date.
